In The Devil's Punchbowl a Landscape Painting

A detailed landscape that depicts an area of the Surrey Hills that according to legend, the Devil became so irritated by all the churches being built in Sussex during the Middle Ages that he decided to dig a channel from the English Channel through the South Downs and flood the area. As he began digging, he threw up huge lumps of earth, each of which became a local landmark — such as Chanctonbury Ring, Cissbury Ring, Mount Caburn, and Rackham Hill. He got as far as the village of Poynings ( The Devil's Dyke) when he was disturbed by a cock crowing. One version of this story claims that it was the prayers of St Dunstan that made all the cocks crow earlier than usual. The devil assumed that dawn was about to break and leapt into Surrey, creating the Devil's Punch Bowl where he landed. As you hike along the trail at the bottom of the Punchbowl looking to the other side the valley you are faced with an impenetrable forest of green trees with the occasional wild rabbit darting in and out , Looking above these you see the side of the valley rising high above you with the Heather brightening the hillside. A truly beautiful place to wander . This painting is sold in a natural solid wood frame ready to hang on your wall. I will also supply a signed certificate of authenticity.

This painting is taken from a series of photographs of a flower meadow seen in a park in Twickenham Middlesex. So many flowers in one place made the scene so bright and cheerful . I had to immortalise this scene in a landscape painting in oils. You can almost smell the scent of the flowers and see them gently swaying in the breeze. Painted around all sides ready to hang. I will also supply a signed certificate of authenticity .

I was born in 1956 in Twickenham, Middlesex. UK . After a varied career mainly working with my hands in engineering and building and then teaching for over 25 years, i have decided to spend my time painting . After a lifetime of sketching,  painting , reading and watching other artists , i  settled on pastels and oil painting as my  favourite mediums to work in.
I now dedicate the majority of my time to my detailed landscape and coastal paintings taken from my photographs so each photograph and painting is unique .
I take great pleasure in capturing a moment in time and reproducing it on canvas or board. Nature provides such incredible subjects .
As you will see some of these photographs are for sale as prints .
Lately i have been producing some more abstract work in acrylic paint , these are very organic and great fun to produce . PS Please come back and check as i have just started building this website and more paintings and photographs will be added regularly
